Two years ago, Mingara Triathlon Club had 76 members, and races usually consisted of around 30 competitors.  Back then we could get away with having people fill in their entry form and pay on the day, ink race numbers on legs with a marker, and keep the whole thing very casual.

Fast-forward to today, and we are ending the 2008/2009 financial year with over 300 members, and some of our triathlon races fielded over 100 competitors.  We have introduced an online registration and payment system, we use race belts to make time-keeping easier for our volunteers, we have invited the local SES and Lions Club to come and help out with marshalling duties and even have St John Ambulance on-hand just in case.  We are now one of the best and most professionally-run triathlon clubs in the state.

As we continue to move forward into the 2009/2010 financial year we have plans to make this great triathlon club even better.  We are looking at introducing new races such as aquathons and cross country duathlons with mountain bikes and bush running to complement our existing triathlons and duathlons.  We are looking at new equipment from more bike racks for transition through to our own rescue boards for water safety.  We are looking at doing whatever we can to make our existing races as enjoyable and as safe as possible for all competitors and their families.

And we are adopting a whole new online membership and race registration system.  Our previous e-commerce system was adequate but very time-consuming for our registrar and timekeepers, so we have signed up with a race-specific service which costs a little more but will streamline everything making it easier for both racers and officials.

To cover this and to make sure we can continue to grow, we therefore need to implement a slight increase in membership and race fees coming into the new financial year.  We also need to differentiate between Tri NSW and non Tri NSW members when it comes to race fees (see the section on Tri NSW membership below)

As of 01 JUN 09, these will be as follows:

Membership
Adult (18+): $30
Junior (17 and under): $15
Family (two adults + one or more children): $70
Associate (non-racing): $10

Race Fees (Winter Duathlon Series)
A/B Grade – Tri NSW Member $12
A/B Grade – Non Tri NSW Member $15
C Grade – Tri NSW Member $5
C Grade – Non Tri NSW Member $8

Race Fees (Summer Triathlon Series, starting OCT 09)
A/B Grade – Tri NSW Member $15
A/B Grade – NonTri NSW Member $20
C Grade – Tri NSW Member $5
C Grade – NonTri NSW Member $8

Tri NSW Membership

Triathlon NSW is the peak body governing triathlon and multisport in NSW, and without them there probably would not be a triathlon club on the Central Coast, much less bigger open races around the state.  They provide our club with  sanctioning and insurance for club races, and also look after personal and public liability insurance for individual racers.

To be fully covered, you need to either be a Tri NSW member or we can provide you with a One Race Membership for a small additional fee as shown in the table above.

If you become a member of Tri NSW you will not only be covered at our club races without having to buy a One Race Membership every month, but also be covered 24/7 while training for sanctioned triathlon events.  You will also save on race entry fees at sanctioned open races such as the Sparke Helmore in Newcastle, Forster, Huskisson,  Morpeth, the Port Macquarie Ironman and Half-Ironman events and the NSW Club Champs in Port Stephens.

Do enough club races here on the Central Coast and elsewhere, and your Tri NSW membership could pay for itself!

And of course, being a Tri NSW member makes you eligible to earn points for our club at the NSW Club Champs in May 2010.  We want to get as many local racers up to One Mile as possible representing the Central Coast next year and retain our Best Country Club trophy!

Tri NSW membership is $111.50 for adult club members and just $61 for junior club members.   Any member who comes along to just four aquathons, three duathlons, two aquathons and one cross country duathlon could save $42 without signing up for any other races, and you’ll be covered whilst training as well as competing.

It does make sense to join! For more information, please visit www.trinswrace.org

Club Annual General Meeting

Just a reminder that the Club AGM will be held at 7:30pm on Thursday 16th July 2009 at Mingara Recreation Club, Wyong Road Berkeley Vale.

We will be letting all members know how the club currently stands, will be voting in a new committee to guide us across the new financial year, and will be allowing all members to vote on changing the name from Mingara Triathlon Club to Central Coast Triathlon & Multisport Club.  We will outline the pros and cons of changing the name (with Mingara’s blessing and continued sponsorship, we may add!) and will answer any questions members have on what it will mean to the club’s future.

On behalf of the current 2008/2009 committee, we hope to see you there!

Welcome to Mingara Triathlon Club Central Coast

Mingara Triathlon Club is the only club on the NSW Central Coast that runs regular triathlon races - swimming, cycling and running over a sprint-distance course.

We promote the sport of triathlon for both long-time triathles and rookies, and for both hard-core competitors and those just after a bit of fun and fitness. You don't have to be an ironman to race with us... but it helps!

The club holds races year round at Summerland Point on the southern shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie. Over summer we have triathlon races that consist of a swim, cycle and run format, whilst in winter the club still holds duathlon races consisting of just the run, the cycle and another run.

In addition, many of the members of the Mingara Triathlon Club compete in other events away from the Central Coast - in Newcastle, Sydney, the north and south coasts of New South Wales and even further afield such as the Triathlon World Championships in Kona Hawaii.
