Sunday 29 June was Race #2 of the Mingara Triathlon Club 2008 Duathlon Series. Thanks to everyone for their contribution for another great event. For the competitors with great spirit, and for the support from the volunteers.
A big welcome to the new members. I hope this will be the first of many events with us.
Some of the highlights:
- We had the largest field for a Duathlon since the days of Koala Park.
- bumper numbers of volunteers
- There were a number of PB's. If it was you then you are entitled to tell all your friends.
- We had eight new members join us which was a mix of newbies to the sport and some seasoned talent.
- We had about fifteen Lucky Draw prizes. If you won one you recouped you entry fee price for between one or more than a years worth of races.
- The council has not yet repaired the vandalised BBQ but the caterer stepped up to the mark with an excellent soup.
A beautiful Central Coast winters day for the racing.
There is more to consider about our club races than the numbers on the results page.
The numbers can show the effectiveness of our training efforts They are also a brutally honest measure of the setbacks from injury or lethargy. Either way they are a good place to get inspiration or motivation for your next race. Your multisport goals may be short or long term. Vague or crystal clear. Your current life balance might push them to the back burner or you might be happy for them to be all consuming. We are all in the club for our own reasons.
Doesn't matter where you are at in your multisport career, every club member has the oppportunity to take something special out of this Duathlon season, and that is the Series Handicap honours. It's the Stawell Gift of Multisport. The handicap is designed so that anyone could win the series finale. A first season rookie or Age Group World Champion have equal opportunity to take the prize.
It will be a very cool thing to win. So there is the challenge to everyone. We just need to complete this three step plan:
- do a couple of races to get a handicap
- be a volunteer for one race (or have family member or friend do it for you)
- Put in a big effort on September 28 at the season finale. You will need to near or better than your PB this season and have a bit of luck on the day to be the winner. Isn't doing your best what it's about? If you have achieved your best does it matter if you don't snag some booty?
Enjoy you training and racing!
